The Cuy Festival is celebrated annually on October 11th in Machetá, Cundinamarca. It is a tradition that highlights the preparation of cuy as a typical dish of the region, along with a wide range of cultural activities. During this event, attendees enjoy culinary contests showcasing different ways of cooking cuy, while parades, cultural performances, folk music, and craft fairs are held. This festive day emphasizes the cultural and culinary value of cuy, a symbol of local identity, in an atmosphere filled with traditions and entertainment for the entire community. In the past, the Cuy Festival was celebrated in the same way, with the event drawing large crowds who enjoyed the same activities. It was a special day for the community, where everyone came together to celebrate local culture and cuisine.

SEcond Conditional

  • If the festival were held on different dates, workers who are usually busy might attend more easily.

  • If there were a special award which highlighted innovative cuy recipes, the chefs who participate would feel more motivated.

THIRD CONDITIONAL

  • If the community hadn’t started this festival, those whose roots are in Machetá wouldn’t have had the chance to celebrate their culture.

  • If the organizers hadn’t included folk music which represents the region, visitors who love traditional music might have been disappointed.
